Go Pokemon phenomenon that swept across the world are exploited by cyber criminals malicious program makers. One example is a trojan guise of a guide to the popular game.
According to security firm Kaspersky, this trojan circulating in the Android app store, Google Play Store, by disguising itself as a software "Guide for Pokemon Go".
Trojan horse has been downloaded 500,000 times and infecting at least 6,000 devices. Kaspersky wrote in a statement posted to Bojez Creative, Saturday (17/09/2016).
Thousands of infected devices are spread across several countries, including Russia, India, and Indonesia.
Kaspersky explained, trojan "Guide for Pokemon Go" is able to seize the root privileges on your Android smartphone and use it to install or remove applications and to display advertisements on mobile phones.
"If you have been infected, there was another person inside your phone that has control over the OS and all that you do and keep at it," said analyst Senior Malware Kaspersky, Roman Unuchek.
For users with devices already infected, Kaspersky suggest factory reset to remove the trojan.
Kaspersky has reported the presence of "Guide for Pokemon Go" to Google. The malicious program that masquerades under the guise of Pokemon Go have now been removed from the Play Store.
